LA Rams To Notch Eighth-Straight Victory
The Los Angeles Rams will face a tough test of their Super Bowl credentials against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
The Rams have been perfect to start the season, winning all seven of their contests. Sean McVay has pushed every right button since assuming control of the team for the 2017 term. The 32-year-old now has Los Angeles on a push for the Super Bowl, starting by earning the top seed in the NFC.
Los Angeles are control of the NFC West and have already made a statement by defeat a fellow NFC Conference contender the Minnesota Vikings on home soil during the campaign.
Jared Goff and his potent offense came out on top against Kirk Cousins, but will have to be even better against Rodgers. The Rams have been on song moving the ball downfield with ease, boasting the quality and depth to expose even the elite teams in the NFL.
Green Bay have been struggling for rhythm this season, but come into the contest fresh off their bye week. Rodgers pulled off another memorable comeback to drive his side back to defeat the San Francisco 49ers last time out.
The 34-year-old has been forced to pull off heroics twice in his side’s three wins. Rodgers may be required to carry the Packers once again as they face the in-form outfit in the NFL on the road.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams continue to excel on offense as they approach the half-way stage of the season. Goff’s development has been a major storyline this term, although he has not been as effective in his last three matches. His two interceptions against the Seattle Seahawks almost cost the team, but the 24-year-old has rounded back into form with two clean games against the Denver Broncos and 49ers. Goff may have more on his plate to go toe-to-toe with Rodgers in the contest. It will be a good measuring stick of where he’s at in his career. It will be an important sign for the Rams to see whether he can match the NFL’s best in a pressurised game given their Super Bowl aspirations.
Goff has the talent around him to expose Green Bay’s secondary, which continues to be suspect. He will have to make the throws into the tight windows to put the points on the board to take the game away from Rodgers and the Packers. Gurley had a down week by his high standards last week, rushing for 63 yards, although he did notch three touchdowns. Teams will be playing to stop his threat out of the backfield and forcing the game into the hands of Goff. Gurley has had no issue with that in the past and he should be able to pick up yards in space against the Packers defense. It’s just as an important game for the running back as it is Goff in an important contest on home soil.
Aaron Donald proved why he’s arguably the best defender in the NFL last week. He notched four sacks of CJ Beathard in his side’s win over the 49ers. After a slow start to the term, Donald leads the league with eight sacks. In a year where defenses across the league are struggling to keep teams out of the endzone players like Donald take on greater significance. If he can help make the one stop to contain the Packers to allow the Rams to win a shootout, the 27-year-old will have done his job for the team.
Green Bay Packers
More than ever before the Packers are leaning on Rodgers to keep them competitive in the NFC Conference. For the second time of the campaign, the 34-year-old had to produce heroics late in the match to see off the 49ers on home soil. Green Bay were on the back foot for the majority of the game, but once Rodgers and his receivers started to click the contest began to swing in their favour. The quarterback has been dealing with a knee injury sustained in the opening week of the season against the Chicago Bears where he produced another memorable comeback.
Without those two performances, the Packers would be 1-4-1 in their season. It highlights the dependence that Mike McCarthy’s men have their star man, putting the head coach under pressure to alleviate the strain. Other than Davante Adams, the Packers have not had solid production from their wideouts. Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison have been dealing with injuries, while their rookie receivers have endured growing pains in the offense. Aaron Jones has had his moments running the ball, although his fitness problems have made those few and far between with only 32 carries on the year. Against the Rams, the Packers will likely be involved in another shootout.
Green Bay’s defense has been a weakness for far too long. Mike Pettine was brought to the club to rectify the issues, but has shown no signs of being able to fix them this term at least. Beathard passed with ease on the defense, while Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert found acres of space in the running game. The Packers’ secondary has struggled for seemingly years, and although the team have invested significant resources in the Draft to resolve the problem, the new players face the same issues as their predecessors. They have to put up resistance against Goff, Gurley and the Rams to give their team a fighting chance on the road.
Betting Options
The Rams have been unstoppable this season, but will face a challenge against Rodgers and the Packers who appear to be relishing their status as underdogs. Los Angeles have started to play complementary football, which could be enough to swing the balance in their favour. It will be a shootout between two good offensive teams, although the Rams have the quality on defense to get the one stop or turnover to secure the victory.
