Which European Will Top Score At The Ryder Cup?
Thomas Bjorn leads Europe in their quest to regain the Ryder Cup back from the United States as the two teams begin their battle in Paris on Friday.
Europe saw their winning streak of three-straight tournaments ended in the USA last time out as Darren Clarke’s men fell to a heavy defeat.
There have been several changes to that team, although the core figures remain the same. Bjorn will be using a blend of experience and youthful talent in his bid to win the 42nd Ryder Cup come Sunday.
Rory McIlroy
Bjorn will be expecting big things out of McIlroy over the three days. The Northern Irishman is usually the man that sticks his hand up to play in every single match. McIlroy does have a winning record, triumphing in nine of his 19 matches, drawing four of the contests. He was one of the few players to stand up against the barrage that faced the Europeans at Hazeltine in the competition two years ago, battling Patrick Reed all the way in the singles match. The 29-year-old came up short on that occasion, but will be desperate for revenge. McIlroy notched three points in the process and will be looking to lead the way for his team.
The Northern Irishman comes into the tournament off the back of a poor final round at the Tour Championship. He manoeuvred himself into a good position to challenge Tiger Woods, only to struggle on his final round with a four-over display. It’s not the first time that has happened to McIlroy over the course of the season. He did finish strongly at the Arnold Palmer Invitational to win the tournament. However, he failed to grasp the opportunity at The Masters and The Open, missing out two potential crowns. Bjorn will be looking at his star to thrive and he must rise to the occasion at odds of 5.50Bet €100 to win €5509/2Bet £100 to win £550+450Bet $100 to win $5504.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$5504.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp550-0.2222Bet RM100 to win RM550 with Bet365.
Justin Rose
Rose was the other player that was attempting to catch Woods at the top of the leaderboard at the Tour Championship. He also failed to rise to the occasion, producing underwhelming golf on his final round with a three-over performance, knocking him down to tied-fourth. However, Rose did manage to the win the FedEx Cup for his consistency over the course of the campaign. His steady nature will be vital for Bjorn during the competition. Rose is the sort of player that will not let anyone down on at Le Golf National, while he has a strong history at the tournament.
The 38-year-old will be playing in his fifth Ryder Cup, and his fourth on the bounce. Rose has an imperious record similar to that of Ian Poulter. His reliability will be massive for Bjorn to lean on as Clarke did before him as the Englishman played in all five matches last time out. In total Rose has played 19 matches, winning 11 of his contests. Foursomes is his best event, claiming five victories with just two losses and a draw, although Rose also has a strong record in the singles. He comes into the event with form on his side, therefore, back him at 6.00Bet €100 to win €6005/1Bet £100 to win £600+500Bet $100 to win $6005.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$6005.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp600-0.2000Bet RM100 to win RM600 with BetVictor to lead the way for Europe.
John Rahm
At the age of 23, Rahm will be playing in the Ryder Cup for the first time. The Spaniard has a great deal of potential that he has flashed on the PGA Tour, although he has not been able to secure the success to match up to his talent. Rahm has one victory on the tour this term, which came right at the start of the season at the CareerBuilder Challenge. Since then he has been inconsistent – a fact that has prevented him from adding further titles to his name. A poor first round of Augusta knocked him off the pace. And although he produced fine form in his next three rounds, the Spaniard was unable to catch Patrick Reed, placing in fourth.
It was the same story at the PGA Championship when he just couldn’t produce the one flawless round to haul in Brooks Koepka. The 23-year-old could be a boom-or-bust prospect for Europe at the tournament. He seems to have the character that will relish the occasion. Rahm has the perfect mentor in Sergio Garcia, with the Spaniards likely to be teamed together at least once in the opening two days. Back Rahm to be the leading rookie at 3.00Bet €100 to win €3002/1Bet £100 to win £300+200Bet $100 to win $3002.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$3002.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp300-0.5000Bet RM100 to win RM300 with Betway for Europe as he may not play enough to be the top points’ man.
Ian Poulter
Poulter returns to the fold as a wildcard selection after missing the tournament last time out. Europe missed his presence in America in their defeat and Bjorn will be pleased to have his character and his level of play on the final day. The 42-year-old was the spark that led Europe’s rally in Medinah in 2012. His performance through the tournament six years ago was the stuff of legend. Poulter won all four of his matches in Chicago, highlighting his value to the team. Poulter was not quite as effective in 2014, although Europe were able to pull off a comfortable victory anyway. The Englishman’s true value comes through his leadership and tone-setting displays.
He is unbeaten on the final day and relishes the occasion of one-on-one matchplay. In 18 matches at the Ryder Cup, Poulter has won 12 of them. He provides a stubborn obstacle for the States in their attempt to win the tournament overseas for the first time in 25 years. Poulter’s form coming into the Ryder Cup is not outstanding, although it has not counted for a great deal in the past. He finished tied-fifth at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play earlier this year and should be ready for the challenge. Take him for value to lead the way for Europe at odds of 11.00Bet €100 to win €110010/1Bet £100 to win £1100+1000Bet $100 to win $110010.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$110010.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp1100-0.1000Bet RM100 to win RM1100 with Bet365.
