England Line Up Australia Whitewash At Old Trafford
England will be eyeing their first whitewash of Australia when they face off in the final one-day international of their series at Old Trafford.
The Three Lions continued their imperious form by powering to six-wicket win over Tim Paine’s men at the Emirates Riverside on Thursday.
Australia won the toss and put forward a competitive total of 311 as Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh scored centuries, with the latter notching his second hundred of the series.
However, Jason Roy scored his second ton of the series in response as he Jonny Bairstow continued their outstanding form at the top of the innings.
Eoin Morgan’s men were always in control of their chase after the onslaught in the early stages before Jos Buttler smashed England over the line to secure the win.
It was the second-highest run chase in the Three Lions’ history, falling only behind the 350 they successfully pursued in 2015 against New Zealand.
England now have the chance to inflict the ultimate humiliation on their rivals by sweeping the series. Australia have not been competitive even when they’ve had decent moments. Paine has to pick up his side for one last effort in the 50-over format to avoid a whitewash defeat in Manchester.
England’s Top Batsman
The Three Lions’ top order has been sensational during the series. Roy recorded his second century in four matches against Australia, with a blistering innings at Durham. He took the attack to the Aussie pace bowlers, putting them on the back foot immediately. Roy notched the sixth hundred of his career, pushing his average towards the 40-run mark. The competition for places in the top of the order is bringing out the best in each other. He made 101, and although he did not lead England over the line, the ferocity of his innings took the game away from Australia.
Bairstow played second fiddle, but he still scored 79 off 66 deliveries. The 28-year-old averages over 50 in ODI cricket and is quickly developing into one of the best batsmen in the format. He will be desperate to sign off against the Aussies with another century. Bairstow has been in excellent form, although he has only kicked on to make the big ton once, his performances have deserved more. Therefore back him to score his seventh ODI century with a fine innings at Old Trafford at odds of 4.00Bet €100 to win €4003/1Bet £100 to win £400+300Bet $100 to win $4003.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$4003.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp400-0.3333Bet RM100 to win RM400 with 888Sport.
Australia’s Top Batsman
Australia put forward a vintage ODI performance, which saw them slip to a defeat. Although Finch and Marsh notched centuries, they were unable to kick into the next gear to score at a rapid rate. Finch took 106 balls to reach his hundred, but was then dismissed by Mark Wood. Marsh was slightly more aggressive before falling to an outstanding piece of fielding from Roy on the boundary. Travis Head showed decent intent at the start of the innings, but he too failed to kick on.
Australia’s top order may have been fearful of losing too many wickets early on, exposing their long tail. It has been an issue throughout the series, especially with the absence of David Warner and Steve Smith. Justin Langer will need to see more from the players in the squad to prove that they are capable or raising the level of their games. It has been underwhelming so far, with only Marsh proving a point at number three in the order. Back him to continue his impressive form at Old Trafford with another solid innings with odds of 4.50Bet €100 to win €4507/2Bet £100 to win £450+350Bet $100 to win $4503.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$4503.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp450-0.2857Bet RM100 to win RM450 with 888Sport.
England’s Top Bowler
For once England’s spinners were not able to come to the fore against Australia. The track at the Riverside was not a turning wicket therefore Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid were not quite as effective. Joe Root got through 10 overs of part-time off-spin, bowling economically to frustrate the Australia batsmen. David Willey and Wood were able to strike late, with the latter taking the crucial strikes of Finch and Marcus Stoinis. It has not been an easy ride for the seamers during the series, but they were able to improve their figures as the Baggy Greens attempted to hit out later in their innings.
It’s the one area of concern England will have ahead of the World Cup, although Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes have not played in the series, while Liam Plunkett was rested. Wood highlighted his quality with the two dismissals that prevented an Aussie surge, but he needs to produce on a more consistent basis. Back him to shine at Old Trafford to lead the way with the ball at odds of 5.00Bet €100 to win €5004/1Bet £100 to win £500+400Bet $100 to win $5004.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$5004.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp500-0.2500Bet RM100 to win RM500 with 888Sport.
Australia’s Top Bowler
The Australia attack were smashed all around the ground once again by the England’s batsmen. It has been a harrowing tour for the unit without their senior men. Nathan Lyon was included in the team for the fourth match of the series, and although he took one wicket, the off-spinner did endure some of the same punishment. There has not been one man that Paine has been able to turn to for control or a threat with ball in hand.
Billy Stanlake did have a good first game, but since then he has blasted to all parts, conceding 54 runs off his eight overs. Michael Neser and Jhye Richardson failed to fire once again, lacking the nous and the control to stifle the Three Lions. Ashton Agar impressed with a couple of wickets, including a strike to remove Root. Australia need more from him to avoid a whitewash. He could provide the answer at Old Trafford, therefore back him at odds of 6.00Bet €100 to win €6005/1Bet £100 to win £600+500Bet $100 to win $6005.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$6005.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp600-0.2000Bet RM100 to win RM600 with 888 Sport.
Match Verdict
England are playing with confidence and quality all over the pitch at the moment. Australia have had no answer for them in all three aspects of the game. The Three Lions have out batted, bowled and fielded their rivals, giving them the opportunity of claiming the whitewash.
England will be desperate to pour on the agony for the Baggy Greens, making what has been an awful year for them even worse with a hammering at the hands of their oldest of foes.
