Barcelona to Capitalise on Sevilla’s La Liga Shortcomings

March 27, 2018

Barcelona meet Sevilla this weekend in La Liga.

Sevilla is yet to take a Spanish Primera Division point from the four teams destined to represent the competition in next season’s UEFA Champions League so one is keen to bet on Barcelona beating the White and Reds on Easter Saturday.

It is little wonder that Jose Mourinho’s many critics jumped all over Manchester United’s UEFA Champions League exit to Sevilla because the White and Reds have been dreadful this term and their sixth ranking in the Spanish Primera Division is an indictment on the tournament’s lack of depth. Sevilla has lost each of its six Spanish Primera Division matches against first-ranked Barcelona, second-ranked Atletico Madrid, third-ranked Real Madrid and fourth-ranked Valencia, scoring in just two of those games and losing all bar one of them by multiple-goal margins, including both home dates.

Barcelona is unbeaten in the Spanish Primera Division and, after getting the better of Atletico Madrid earlier this month, the title is as good as locked away. According to one’s Spanish Primera Division collateral form analysis, Barcelona boasts a 17-1-1 lead over Sevilla with the odd teams out being ninth-ranked Getafe (equal) and 10th-ranked Celta (Barca did not fare as well as the White and Reds). November’s reverse Spanish Primera Division fixture ended 2-1 in favour of Barcelona and Barca have won each of the last five meetings of the sides across various events.

The next round of UEFA Champions League matches may have an impact on this weekend’s Spanish Primera Division games and, with Sevilla entertaining Bayern Munchen 24 hours before Barcelona hosts Roma, the White and Reds may not be as focused as Barca. Furthermore, Sevilla attacker Pablo Sarabia is suspended for Barcelona’s Spanish Primera Division visit and no-one has scored more goals for the White and Reds across all competitions this season. Side with Messi & Co. at odds of 1.73Bet €100 to win €17373/100Bet £100 to win £173-137Bet $100 to win $1730.73Bet HK$100 to win HK$173-1.37Bet Rp100 to win Rp1730.7300Bet RM100 to win RM173  with Betway.

Valencia, which thrashed Sevilla 2-0 and 4-0 during this Spanish Primera Division campaign, is one’s second selection of the round because the Bats are attractively priced at 2.04Bet €100 to win €20426/25Bet £100 to win £204+104Bet $100 to win $2041.04Bet HK$100 to win HK$2041.04Bet Rp100 to win Rp204-0.9615Bet RM100 to win RM204  with Jetbull to get the better of 12th-ranked Leganes on Easter Sunday.

All five previous meetings of Valencia and Leganes have resulted in wins for the Bats, including their November clash that ended 3-0. According to one’s Spanish Primera Division collateral form analysis, Valencia’s edge over Levante stands at 16-1-2 with the Bats having outperformed the Frogs versus every other team except fifth-ranked Villarreal (worse), ninth-ranked Getafe (equal) and 18th-ranked Las Palmas (worse). Valencia has won six and drawn one of its last seven Spanish Primera Division matches and the Bats have fewer absentees than Leganes, which will line up without Koke Ruiz due to his ban and many others because of injuries, both short term and long term.

One has to go against the direct Spanish Primera Division head to head that favours Celta over Athletic but the bulk of the formbook points to the Lions representing a decent wager at home to the Sky Blues at odds of 2.15Bet €100 to win €21523/20Bet £100 to win £215+115Bet $100 to win $2151.15Bet HK$100 to win HK$2151.15Bet Rp100 to win Rp215-0.8696Bet RM100 to win RM215  with Betway on Easter Saturday.

That is because, according to one’s Spanish Primera Division collateral form analysis, Athletic enjoys a 9-5-5 advantage over Celta, just Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have beaten the Lions in Bilbao and the Sky Blues have won on the road against only one of the top-13 sides. Athletic had taken out five consecutive games versus Celta before going down 1-3 in Vigo in November so, while the recent head to head favours the Sky Blues, most of the recent ones favour the Lions.
