Brady To Deliver Once Again On The Super Bowl Stage
The New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles face off in Super Bowl LII in a rematch of their clash in the Vince Lombardi trophy game from the 2004 season.
Tom Brady and the Patriots triumphed over the Eagles in that contest to win their third Super Bowl in four seasons. Thirteen years on Brady and Bill Belichick are in the same position, looking for back-to-back titles and another run of three crowns in four years.
Standing in their way are Philadelphia and Nick Foles. Foles was watching from the sidelines for the majority of the season as Carson Wentz led the Eagles towards the top seed in the NFC Conference. Wentz was putting forward an MVP-calibre campaign before his term was ended prematurely after suffering a torn ACL in his side’s win over the Los Angeles Rams.
Foles struggled in his outing towards the campaign. He was effective enough in the first playoff game as his team narrowly defeated the Atlanta Falcons in the Divisional Round. However, the 29-year-old put on a passing clinic in the NFC Championship game, dissecting one of the best defenses in the NFL. Foles threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns in the contest, including a perfect strike down the sideline for Torrey Smith in the first half.
The Eagles man will have to emulate that level of performance to overcome Brady and the Patriots. Brady has established himself beyond doubt as the greatest quarterback in the history of the game. The 40-year-old won his fifth title guiding New England to an incredible 25-point comeback to defeat the Falcons in Super Bowl LI.
A sixth Vince Lombardi trophy would leave him alone as the most successful player in the history of the NFL, taking Brady out of his tie with Charles Haley. Once again history awaits for the quarterback. We’ll now break down the odds for the two signal-callers in the game at US Bank Stadium.
Tom Brady
Brady continues to perform at the peak of his powers, despite reaching the age of 40. The quarterback is poised to win the regular season MVP-award for the third time of his career. He has a slight obstacle to overcome that no player has won the Super Bowl after leading the NFL in passing yards. No MVP has won the Super Bowl since Kurt Warner led the Rams to the crown in the 1999 campaign. However, if there’s any quarterback that can break those trends it’s Brady.
The 40-year-old appeared to be struggling with an injury towards the end of the term that limited his production. In his two playoff matches he has been exceptional, especially in the AFC Championship game. New England’s worst fear occurred when Brady injured his hand in the week before the game. The quarterback played through the ailment – that was not as severe as first believed, delivering a 10-point comeback without his best receiver to send the Patriots into the Super Bowl.
Brady should have Rob Gronkowski back, while his weapons should be as healthy as they have been all season. He will face a massive challenge against an Eagles defense that can bring pressure. Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham and Chris Long will aim to be in the backfield all match. They have elements that the New York Giants possessed in their two Super Bowl wins over Brady.
The Patriots’ quarterback will aim to capitalise on the weaknesses in the Eagles’ linebacking corps and secondary. There have not been many flaws with Brady’s performances in his seven Super Bowls to date. However, the Patriots have not scored in the first quarter with him at quarterback. Nick Foles
Foles had the performance of his life against the Vikings in the NFC Championship game. The 29-year-old was the subject of derision heading into the post-season. Few pundits gave the Eagles much of an opportunity to advance beyond the Divisional Round due to the quality of his play. After Wentz’s injury he did struggle in the final two matches of the regular campaign. His outing against the Falcons did not inspire confidence, but he did enough to win the match with the aid of his defense.
However, Foles was outstanding to deliver the victory over the Vikings. The quarterback was kick-started by a play from his defense, although he was responsible for the other 31 points. He connected twice with Alshon Jeffery with two throws downfield along with a dime to Smith in the endzone, beating tight coverage. Philadelphia need that level of performance once again to deliver their first Super Bowl title.
The 29-year-old did produce an MVP-calibre season of his own in 2013. He threw for 27 touchdowns to just two interceptions under Chip Kelly. Foles’ fine campaign included tying the single-game touchdown record with seven strikes against the Oakland Raiders. The quarterback is more than capable of rising to the occasion, although the Super Bowl and Belichick will provide the ultimate test.
In an ideal world the Eagles will not want to see Foles throwing the ball a great deal. However, he may be forced into chasing Brady and the Patriots. Back him to throw more than 33.5 times at 1.80Bet €100 to win €1804/5Bet £100 to win £180-125Bet $100 to win $1800.80Bet HK$100 to win HK$180-1.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp1800.8000Bet RM100 to win RM180 with Bovada, along with over 22.5 completions at 1.80Bet €100 to win €1804/5Bet £100 to win £180-125Bet $100 to win $1800.80Bet HK$100 to win HK$180-1.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp1800.8000Bet RM100 to win RM180 .
