Werdum To Score Late Victory Against Tybura

November 8, 2017

Fabcricio Werdum vs. Alistair Overeem

Fabricio Werdum will manage one of the quickest turnarounds in recent MMA history as he gets set to take on Marcin Tybura at UFC Fight Night 121 in Sydney, Australia. The two are scheduled to headline the UFC’s return to the “Down Under” after Mark Hunt was withdrawn from the main event after the promotion pulled him due to ‘medical concerns’.

Note: odds have not been released for Fabricio Werdum vs. Marcin Tybura at the moment. Please check back with SBO.net closer to the event for breaking odds and our best bets for UFC Fight Night 121.

Fabricio Werdum

Record: 22-7-1
Height: 6’4″ (193cm)
Reach: 77.0″ (196cm)

Would you believe that Fabricio Werdum only just competed last month? He was supposed to battle Derrick Lewis on the main card of UFC 216 but after “The Black Beast” was forced to withdraw after suffering from back pain, Werdum’s opponent changed to Walt Harris on the day of the event.

Harris proved to be no challenge for Werdum, as many had expected. Now, the Brazilian looks to score a win over the Polish fighter in Australia and make a claim as the next deserving title challenger in the UFC’s heavyweight division.

Marcin Tybura

Record: 16-2
Height: 6’3″ (191cm)
Reach: 78.0″ (198cm)

After joining the UFC and losing to Timothy Johnson at UFC Fight Night 86, Marcin Tybura has turned the page and put together three consecutive victories.

Tybura smashed Viktor Pesta in the second round at UFC Fight Night 92 and then managed to end Luis Henrique’s night at UFC 209 seven months later. In his most recent performance, Tybura defeated Andrei Arlovski on the back of a dominant first-round performance.

Fight Breakdown

I used to think Tybura was an extremely dangerous striker. But now, the more and more I see of him, I start to believe while he is powerful, he’s only slightly above average in the heavyweight division.

He packs tremendous strength and speed into his strikes, but he occasionally remains so flat-footed that opponents can shoot in underneath him and attempt a takedown. He also doesn’t move well after striking and therefore he remains a stationary target that opponents can strike.

While attacking, however, he definitely has the potential to land significant blows on his opponent. This could be the case with Fabricio Werdum, who can sometimes storm forward relentlessly after taking damage. In fact, Werdum could likely walk into trouble if an opponent is aware of his forward movement after being hit.

Werdum enters this one after struggling with the striking of Alistair Overeem for two rounds in his bout before Walt Harris at UFC 216. Overeem also showed that if you neutralize Werdum’s striking, it also takes away some of his takedown prowess. He was too hesitant in the early stages of the fight, but with increased urgency and aggression in the third round, he looked much better.

Prediction and Betting Guide

Marcin Tybura might just be able to sneak a shocking victory if he can land his strikes on Fabricio Werdum. However, the more likely outcome in this contest is that Tybura is on the receiving end of strikes after a Werdum forward-rush that either sees him on his back or on the mat with a dangerous Werdum all over him.

It’s difficult to back against Werdum in this contest and there isn’t much value betting on him for that reason.

There is definitely value to be had in betting that this one lasts a little longer than the consensus opinion, however. Tybura has outstanding scrambling ability which allows him to recover and get back on his feet. If he can do this, he’ll avoid Werdum’s nasty submissions and the two will likely make it into rounds three and four.
