Liverpool can Entertain at Newcastle on Sunday
There are three big Premier League games live on TV on Sunday, and it’s an armchair punter’s delight! My esteemed colleague here at SBO has already given his views on the best bet in the Everton v Burnley fixture, so I’ll round out our position on the matches at Newcastle and Arsenal as October begins.
The Magpies host Liverpool in what has traditionally been a much-anticipated fixture. These two heavyweights of English football past have had some belters over the years, and we might just be in for another treat on Sunday. Jurgen Klopp’s side come fresh from a disappointing draw at Spartak Moscow in the Champions League, and are currently on a run of just one win in six. That might inspire a Newcastle team which sits 9th in the table under Rafa Benitez, and is enjoying life back in the top flight. The two managers have only met once when in charge of their current teams – a 2-2 draw at Anfield back in April 2016.
The other Sunday game sees Arsenal entertain Brighton, who beat Newcastle last week to bring up their second win of the season. The Seagulls are 13th in the early table, but that’s a position they’d probably take right now if offered it for next May. Home form will be vital for the South Coast side, but we don’t expect them to manage too many on their travels. The Gunners lost two of the first three games of the season to spark a mini-crisis, but five wins and a draw in the last six in all competitions have put them back on track. Impressively, they’ve kept three consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League, and could be on course for another win to nil in this match.
Newcastle v Liverpool
The first bet is to take a chance on over 3.5 goals at 2.88Bet €100 to win €28847/25Bet £100 to win £288+188Bet $100 to win $2881.88Bet HK$100 to win HK$2881.88Bet Rp100 to win Rp288-0.5319Bet RM100 to win RM288 with Betfair when Liverpool travel to the North East.
Although some Liverpool fans are starting to express doubts, most are still enjoying Jurgen Klopp’s brazen attacking style of football. What can’t be in doubt is the entertainment level, and for neutral fans Liverpool are a good team to watch. It also results in many a high-scoring game, and it was a slender 3-2 victory at Leicester which bagged them the points last week – assisted by Jamie Vardy’s late penalty miss. Already this season the Reds have featured in a 4-2 win over Hoffenheim, a 5-0 defeat at Man City, a 4-0 win over Arsenal, and a 2-2 draw with Sevilla. Sadio Mane also returns after his three-game ban, adding to the prospect of goals.
Newcastle are holding their own so far in the Premier League and have already beaten West Ham and Stoke on this ground, as well as winning away at Swansea. They were beaten 2-0 here by Spurs on the opening day of the season, and Sunday’s game will be their first real test against a top side since then. Benitez is a wily manager who has adopted various tactics this term, so it will be interesting to see how he approaches this one. Will he use a high press as he did against West Ham and play Liverpool at their own game? We wait to see, but Newcastle are certainly good enough to get on the scoresheet in front of their own fans.
A second bet is Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 3.30Bet €100 to win €33023/10Bet £100 to win £330+230Bet $100 to win $3302.30Bet HK$100 to win HK$3302.30Bet Rp100 to win Rp330-0.4348Bet RM100 to win RM330 with William Hill.
Arsenal v Brighton
In the other match Arsenal to win to nil is a good bet at 2.00Bet €100 to win €2001/1Bet £100 to win £200+100Bet $100 to win $2001.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$2001.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp2001.0000Bet RM100 to win RM200 with BetVictor and Paddy Power
The Gunners have conceded in both Europa League group games so far against Koln and BATE, but still won them both. On the domestic front they’ve been much tighter and haven’t conceded in four games in league and cup. Bournemouth, Doncaster and West Brom have all been beaten to nil, and Wenger’s men also secured an impressive 0-0 draw at Chelsea.
Brighton have scored just five times this season, but only one of those came away from home in a 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth. They’ve drawn a blank in both other Premier League road games – a 0-0 at Watford and a 2-0 defeat at Leicester. Their home wins against the likes of West Brom and Newcastle will be the sort of results that keep them up, but it’s hard to imagine the Seagulls getting much from tough away games such as this. Chris Hughton’s men will be under siege from the first whistle and will find it difficult to get enough men forward to pose a problem for the Gunner’s rearguard.
