Arsenal to Maintain Strong Home Record v West Brom
Arsenal have beaten West Brom to nil on five of the last six meetings at the Emirates, and that could be the shrewd bet when the pair complete this week’s Premier League fixtures on Monday night.
Tony Pulis teams have often been known as a thorn in the side of Arsene Wenger’s Gunners, and it’s true that the Baggies have been successful the last two times they’ve hosted the North Londoners. However, their record on the road against Arsenal has been dismal in recent seasons. They’ve managed just one goal in the last six trips South – in a 4-1 defeat back in May 2015.
On Sunday Brighton host Newcastle in a reprisal of what was a Championship fixture last term. The two promoted sides have had mixed fortunes so far, but a run of three straight wins sees the Magpies in a better light. Rafa Benitez’ side are up to 7th in the table, while Chris Hughton’s Seagulls are back in 17th just one place above the drop zone. It’s by no means certain that this game will go to that form though. Brighton have a strong home record over recent seasons, and have won two of three this term on home soil.
Arsenal v West Brom
In search of better odds an Arsenal victory to nil pays 2.20Bet €100 to win €2206/5Bet £100 to win £220+120Bet $100 to win $2201.20Bet HK$100 to win HK$2201.20Bet Rp100 to win Rp220-0.8333Bet RM100 to win RM220 with BetVictor and Ladbrokes and should be a better bet than the outright win which is heavily odds-on.
West Brom had a sharp start to the season but that has petered out somewhat over recent games. Back-to-back 1-0 wins over Burnley and Bournemouth got them up and running but it’s now four games without a win in league and cup. They’ve been held to home draws by West Ham and Stoke, and were beaten 3-1 on the road at Brighton as the Seagulls gathered their first win of the campaign. This is the archetypal Premier League match where a solid and defensive side will set up to make things difficult for the more attack-minded team. Don’t expect the Baggies to commit too many men forward or to create much in the way of goal-scoring opportunities.
For Arsenal it’s the age-old problem of breaking down a side which is likely to put ten men behind the ball. This is something that has dogged the Gunners over the years, but a run of six straight home wins against West Brom suggests they have the Baggies measure. After the wobble of a 1-0 defeat at Stoke and a 4-0 humiliation at Liverpool, Arsenal have won three and drawn one (with Chelsea) in the Premier League, Europa League and Carabao Cup. From a position of 12th – two places behind West Brom – points are vital for Wenger’s side, and they already trail the Manchester clubs by 9 points. Expect a game of attack against defence in which Arsenal should break through at least once to secure the points.
Brighton v Newcastle
Brighton v Newcastle is a tough game to call, but both teams to score is a tempting bet at odds of 2.10Bet €100 to win €21011/10Bet £100 to win £210+110Bet $100 to win $2101.10Bet HK$100 to win HK$2101.10Bet Rp100 to win Rp210-0.9091Bet RM100 to win RM210 with SunBets.
The corresponding fixture in the Championship back in February ended 2-1 to the visitors, although Brighton led for the bulk of the game before two goals in the last ten minutes snatched the points. The Seagulls rarely fail to score in front of their own fans, and results this season so far stand up to scrutiny. They held Manchester City for 70 minutes in their first home game before going down 2-0 to two late goals. Subsequent home games have included a 1-0 win over Barnet in the Carabao Cup, and a 3-1 win over West Brom which garnered their first three points of the season.
The Magpies have recovered from a poor start which saw them lose their first two at home to Spurs and away at Huddersfield. Their last three games have each ended in victory – at home to West Ham and Stoke, and away at Swansea. However, with all three of those sides in the bottom seven, there can be question marks over the size of Newcastle’s achievements. Nonetheless, you can only beat what’s in front of you, as the saying goes, and Rafa Benitez has his side in good form and high on confidence.
The standard of Brighton’s home form over last season and this makes them a tentative selection to win the game at generous odds of 2.88Bet €100 to win €28847/25Bet £100 to win £288+188Bet $100 to win $2881.88Bet HK$100 to win HK$2881.88Bet Rp100 to win Rp288-0.5319Bet RM100 to win RM288 with BetVictor.
