Bank on Goals When Leicester Host Liverpool in Cup

September 19, 2017

Leicester host Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

It’s the third round of the Carabao Cup in midweek and all of the big guns are in action on either Tuesday or Wednesday. The pick of Tuesday night’s matches is the game between Leicester and Liverpool which will be broadcast live on TV, while there are a host of other games to get stuck into on the night.

The Foxes beat Liverpool 3-1 here last season and lost 4-1 on the road, and all signs point towards another high-scoring match in this cup tie. Leicester have kept just one clean sheet this season so far and the Reds have fared little better by managing only two shut-outs. Both sides are likely to rest players ahead of the weekend’s Premier League matches, and lots of changes can often lead to a lack of cohesion and organisation. This has all the makings of a thrilling game for the armchair fan.

New Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson will be hoping to get a first win when his Eagles side welcome Huddersfield to Selhurst Park. The Terriers started Frank de Boer’s downfall with a 3-0 win here on the opening day of the Premier League season, and revenge will be on the minds of the Palace players. Backing them to win their first game of the season may be a risky proposition for some, but we have seen the effect a new manager can have time and time again. It didn’t work out for Hodgson on Saturday in the 1-0 home loss to Southampton, but he will want to make an impact as soon as possible.

Another top flight side that looks a good bet on home soil is Burnley, who host Championship high flyers Leeds on Tuesday evening. The Whites lost for the first time this season away at Millwall over the weekend, but stay top of the second tier ahead of Wolves and Cardiff on goal difference. The Clarets have also begun the season well and have already taken points from away trips to Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool. Sean Dyche has built a good side at Turf Moor and they are fancied to get through to the fourth round with a win on home soil.

Leicester v Liverpool

First up it’s over 2.5 goals at 1.75Bet €100 to win €1753/4Bet £100 to win £175-133Bet $100 to win $1750.75Bet HK$100 to win HK$175-1.33Bet Rp100 to win Rp1750.7500Bet RM100 to win RM175  with Marathonbet in the game between Leicester and Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that players will be rested, but Liverpool’s star-studded squad ensures that there will still be plenty of quality on the pitch. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is in line for his first start for his new club, while striker Dominic Solanke is also expected to feature. There will certainly be little change to the Reds attacking style no matter who steps onto the field. The only match they’ve failed to score in this season was the 5-0 defeat at Manchester City, but they were hamstrung by the sending off of Sadio Mane in that particular game. The prolific striker sits out the second game of a three-match ban on the night, but his teammates are fancied to find the net at least once.

Jamie Vary is missing for Leicester as is Robert Huth, and that dents their side at both ends of the pitch. However, the Foxes have failed to score in only one game this season as well – the 2-0 defeat at Manchester United – so they are more than capable of finding the net too. Plenty of punters will like the look of the 4.00Bet €100 to win €4003/1Bet £100 to win £400+300Bet $100 to win $4003.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$4003.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp400-0.3333Bet RM100 to win RM400  on offer about a Leicester win, but we’ll play it safe and stick with goals.

Burnley v Leeds

Burnley are shaping up for a good season, and currently sit in 7th place above Liverpool in the early Premier League table. Odds of 1.91Bet €100 to win €19191/100Bet £100 to win £191-110Bet $100 to win $1910.91Bet HK$100 to win HK$191-1.10Bet Rp100 to win Rp1910.9100Bet RM100 to win RM191  with Paddy Power and Betway about the Clarets beating Leeds on home turf are good enough to snap up.

Burnley had a poor end to last season in terms of home form – a surprise considering they are generally reliable on home ground. They only won one of the last seven at home in League and Cup, but prior to that had been on a run of nine wins in ten at Turf Moor between October and February. Sean Dyche’s men lost their first home game this season 1-0 to West Brom, but got back to winning ways with victory over Crystal Palace by the same scoreline in their next at home. The 3-2 win at Chelsea and subsequent 1-1 draws at Spurs and Liverpool shows that Burnley are playing to a decent level, and there’s no reason to believe they will struggle against Leeds here.

The Championship club will be dreaming of promotion to the top flight, sitting as they do at the summit of the second tier. That might well affect their ambitions in this cup and in this game, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise of some players were rested ahead of the weekend’s league games. Leeds’ squad is thin by comparison to Burnley’s and focus on the Championship could pay dividends in the long term.

Crystal Palace v Huddersfield

Finally it’s a slightly risky bet, but Palace are fancied to finally get off the mark at 2.03Bet €100 to win €203103/100Bet £100 to win £203+103Bet $100 to win $2031.03Bet HK$100 to win HK$2031.03Bet Rp100 to win Rp203-0.9709Bet RM100 to win RM203  with Marathonbet when they entertain Huddersfield.

The Eagles only win so far this season came in a 2-1 victory over Ipswich in this competition, but their record of five Premier League defeats without scoring a goal is shocking. Roy Hodgson will need to work hard to put that right in the coming weeks, and one suspects he will be targeting this match as an opportunity to get a win, restore confidence and build momentum.

In that respect the game may have more importance to Palace than it does to Huddersfield. The Terriers lost their first Premier League game away at West Ham last week, but held Leicester to a draw in their most recent game at home. They’ve had a good enough start to harbour hopes of surviving in the Premier League, and the focus is sure to be on top flight matches ahead of League Cup matches.
