Man City and Everton can Combine for Goals on Monday
Manchester City vs Everton completes this weekend’s Premier League fixtures and it’s a cracking game for Monday night football. The bookmakers are quoting short odds about a Man City win on the night, but they’ve only beaten Everton in one of the last five meetings and one of the last three at the Etihad. The Toffees have become something of a ‘bogey’ side for the Citizens and they are arguably stronger than ever this season. Can Pep Guardiola’s men get the better of Everton on this occasion, or will Ronald Koeman’s new-look team be a thorn in the side once again.
City got off to a winning start last weekend although they huffed and puffed their way to a 2-0 win over Brighton. Late goals from Aguero and an own goal from Brighton defender Dunk saw them over the line to put three points on the board, but they always looked like coming away with the spoils. A return to the starting line up of Vincent Kompany alongside John Stones at the heart of the Citizen’s defence will inspire confidence that City can overcome last term’s defensive Achilles heel. Everton, however, will pose more of a threat than the newly-promoted Seagulls.
Wayne Rooney caught the headlines with a return to his home town club, scoring the winner in last week’s 1-0 win against Stoke at Goodison. But just as significant could be the signing of Glyfi Sigurdsson from Swansea in a bumper £45 million deal. The former Swan could make his Everton debut on Monday night, and he is sure to provide huge attacking impetus to Koeman’s side this season. Although he may be short of match fitness, the sane cannot be said of the rest of Everton’s squad, who have played four competitive games already this term. The Toffees beat Ruzomberok over two legs in the Europa League qualifiers, and have a healthy 2-0 lead over Hadjuk Split ahead of the second leg as they look odds-on to reach the group stages of the competition proper.
Taking short odds about a City win doesn’t really appeal on Monday night, but there could be value in the goals markets. Over 2.5 goals at 1.65Bet €100 to win €16513/20Bet £100 to win £165-154Bet $100 to win $1650.65Bet HK$100 to win HK$165-1.54Bet Rp100 to win Rp1650.6500Bet RM100 to win RM165 with BetVictor and 188Bet is the first recommended bet, as both teams have the attacking prowess to to make it an entertaining game.
Former Manchester United striker Rooney would dearly love to get one over his old rivals at City, and he is sure to come in for plenty of stick from the home crowd at the Etihad. City started last week’s game at Brighton with Aguero and Jesus in the line up, and if both start again tonight they will be ably supported from midfield by the likes of Silva, and De Bruyne. That could well be the best front four in the Premier League, so Jagielka, Williams and Keane will no doubt have their work cut out at the heart of Everton’s defence.
Both teams to score is also a very decent price, with 188Bet offering odds of 2.08Bet €100 to win €20827/25Bet £100 to win £208+108Bet $100 to win $2081.08Bet HK$100 to win HK$2081.08Bet Rp100 to win Rp208-0.9259Bet RM100 to win RM208 and Coral offering 2.05Bet €100 to win €20521/20Bet £100 to win £205+105Bet $100 to win $2051.05Bet HK$100 to win HK$2051.05Bet Rp100 to win Rp205-0.9524Bet RM100 to win RM205.
Everton thrashed Man City 4-0 as recently as January as they put a dent in Guardiola’s European ambitions, but previous meetings have seen both sides on the scoresheet in three of the last four since January 2016. Three of those last five matches have also had more than three goals per game, and a 0-0 Premier League draw in 2016 was an exception in a fixture that usually produces goals.
This will be a good test of credentials for both sides on Monday night – a test of City’s pretensions of challenging for the title, and a test of Everton’s ambitions of breaking into the top four. City have only failed to score in competitive matches four times in the whole of 2017, but they have never been renowned for clean sheets under Pep Guardiola. Everton’s record is similar – only four games without a goal in this calendar year, and Koeman’s attacking approach helped them to a 7th placed finish last term. There is no doubt that they have improved significantly over the summer with a raft of shrewd signings, and it could be a very successful year on the blue half of Merseyside.
If you are a neutral supporter, sit back and enjoy what should be an excellent game, and get on the goals markets at attractive odds.
