Sergio Pettis to Stop Moreno’s Climb at UFC Mexico

August 1, 2017

Sergio Pettis vs John Moraga

UFC Fight Night 114 Main Event – Sergio Pettis vs Brandon Moreno

UFC Flyweight Bout

Two up-and-coming UFC flyweights stand toe-to-toe in Mexico City when Sergio Pettis and Brandon Moreno collide at UFC Fight Night 114.

Sergio Pettis

Record: 15-2
Height: 5’6″ (168cm)
Reach: 69.5″ (177cm)

Sergio Pettis’ climb through the UFC flyweight rankings kicking into high-speed after a unanimous decision victory against John Moraga at UFC Fight Night 103. Pettis jumped from #15 to #6 in the rankings and has now put together three straight wins, all by way of unanimous decision.

Brandon Moreno

Record: 14-3
Height: 5’7″ (170cm)
Reach: 70.0″ (178cm)

Brandon Moreno continues to impress and like Sergio Pettis, he enters this one on a three-fight winning streak. Moreno featured on The Ultimate Fighter: Season of Champions and impressed despite losing in the first round. Moreno entered the UFC on late notice and choked out Louis Smolka in just under two and a half minutes. He’s now picked up impressive wins over Ryan Benoit and Dustin Ortiz that have bumped him to #7 in the UFC’s flyweight rankings.

Brandon Moreno vs Dustin Ortiz

Breakdown

It’s a battle between the technical and fundamentally sound Sergio Pettis and the somewhat wild and opportunistic Brandon Moreno.

Sergio Pettis picked John Moraga apart with precisely timed punches for the majority of fifteen minutes. His boxing is excellent and brings to the octagon years of wrestling experience and grappling expertise. He’s an all-around threat and a real danger to any opponent.

Moreno has pathed his way to this fight by making the most of every moment. He was down to Duston Ortiz and seemingly was unable to beat Ortiz’s constant takedowns until he connected sweetly with a left high kick that rocked Ortiz. Give Moreno an inch and he’ll take a mile.

Prediction and Betting Strategy

Brandon Moreno seems to always find a way to win. Brandon Moreno is up against his toughest test in the UFC. Although Moreno somehow always finds a way to win, I’ll be backing against him and taking the underdog odds on Sergio Pettis who brings a complete mixed martial arts game. Moreno may damage Pettis on occasion, but I believe Pettis will out work Moreno over the course of the fight.
