Tricorn to Scoot Home at Newmarket on Thursday
4.35 Newmarket – Jumira Bridge
Jumira Bridge is a typical improver hailing from the Roger Varian yard. The lightly raced 3 year old Invincible Spirit colt posted a career best effort last time out when finishing a close up second over today’s course and distance, and with further progress likely, he looks like a sporting bet.
After three strong maiden runs at the back end of 2016, Jumira Bridge was allotted a high official rating of 88. The horse returned to maiden company at Brighton and beat a limited field at prohibitive odds. Bettered that effort next time out at Sandown scoring in a competitive Class 2 handicap. That victory prompted Roger Varian to aim for loftier targets and the horse was pitched into listed company at York. The rise in class and most probably the softer ground conditions didn’t produce an optimal performance for Jumira Bridge, but he showed that to be all wrong last time out when going down by just a neck at Newmarket. The horse hung left in the closing stages and was narrowly beaten, but in the process he recorded an RPR of 101.
Roger Varian does very well with his 3 year olds running in 3 year old+ handicaps, when they have scored within the last 8 weeks, when they didn’t win last time out and are competing in Class 1-5 company; 48/171 (28%) for £75 LSP, winning 50% more often than they are entitled to based on odds. Jumira Bridge is available at odds of 5.00Bet €100 to win €5004/1Bet £100 to win £500+400Bet $100 to win $5004.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$5004.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp500-0.2500Bet RM100 to win RM500 with Coral, Bet365 and Ladbrokes.
5.05 Newmarket – Tricorn
Tricorn is a progressive runner trained by the Newmarket maestro John Gosden. He is incredibly consistent and lifetime form figures ready 211123, which a progression on RPR’s with each start. Tricorn is an owner’s dream as he will always be competitive and despite the son of Helmet stepping out of handicap company and into Listed class, he should give a good account of himself. There are higher rated horses in the field, but Tricorn looks a decent bet at 6.50Bet €100 to win €65011/2Bet £100 to win £650+550Bet $100 to win $6505.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$6505.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp650-0.1818Bet RM100 to win RM650 with William Hill and BetVictor and he may progress again.
John Gosden is not one to rush his horses and Tricorn didn’t make his debut until February of this year. After running green and finishing second on debut at Kempton, he hasn’t looked back and after bagging a maiden, two handicap victories followed. The run last time out was the most impressive as the horse finished 3rd of 29 at Ascot in the Brittania. The horse hit the front that day at the Royal meeting, but perhaps got to the lead too soon and he was eventually swamped by the first and second.
John Gosden doesn’t over phase his horses and when they ran in a Class 2 handicap or lower last time out and are moving up to Class 1 company, they do very well; 26/121 (21%) for £37 LSP, giving an A/E of 1.35. He could well step forward and that experience last time out in a big field will prove invaluable.
