Ride the Crest of a Wave at Haydock Park on Saturday
1.45 Haydock – High Waves
The highlight for many of this Saturday is Richard Fahey sending out a whopping 32 runners. However, the highlight of our Saturday at SBO towers is hopefully the Godolphin trained High Waves. This once raced, once victorious 3-year-old Dream Ahead colt returns from a 212 day absence, but has the potential to make up into a smart performer this year, and a mark of 81 could well underrate the colt from the boys in blue. They could do with a nice young horse given the recent developments within the operation, with Saeed Bin Suroor moaning that he has been sent poor horses in recent times.
He is available at odds of 3.25Bet €100 to win €3259/4Bet £100 to win £325+225Bet $100 to win $3252.25Bet HK$100 to win HK$3252.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp325-0.4444Bet RM100 to win RM325 with BetVictor and although there will be stiff competition with more experienced and battle hardened rivals, Bin Suroor’s runner has a lot of scope and could be better than his mark.
High Waves made his debut back last autumn at Chelsmford and with an attractive pedigree, he was strong in the market, going off a second favourite against a rival with racecourse experience. The Dream Ahead colt broke well and although a little green early, travelled smoothly into the contest. Loomed up menacingly next to the favourite in the home straight and was given one love tap with the whip before forging ahead to win with more in hand than the bare margin suggests. The second has since gone on to break his maiden and do well in handicaps (now rated 87), so the form stands up. High Waves is a lovely looking horse who had the size and scope to improve over the winter, and the absence shouldn’t be a concern with the Bin Suroor yard, in fact they excel with their handicappers returning from 90+ day absences: 74/298 (25%) for £89 LSP, with the runners scoring 45% more often than they are entitled to based on odds.
Haydock is somewhat of a speed track despite its galloping layout, and High Waves would be best served sitting fourth or fifth before striking late. He may still be a little green, but if the horse has wintered well and experienced normal progression, he should be hard to beat.
