Taylor can Power Through to Premier League Play Offs
The final night of the regular Premier League season takes place on Thursday, as Phil Taylor and Dave Chisnall fight it our for the fourth and final play off spot. The Power holds the upper hand as he needs just a point from his match with Adrian Lewis, but Chizzy could overtake him with victory over James Wade and a swing in leg difference if Taylor loses. Meanwhile, Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright are battling for top position and the £25,000 bonus, with the former up against Gary Anderson and the latter taking on Raymond van Barneveld. The GE Oil & Gas Arena in Aberdeen will host a cracking evening of darts, when all the scores will be settled on Thursday night.
Last week’s action in Sheffield saw Gary Anderson secure his place in the last four with a 7-3 win over James Wade. Phil Taylor claimed a great 7-3 victory over Michael van Gerwen to put himself within touching distance of the play offs, while Peter Wright trounced Adrian Lewis 7-2 to keep his slim hopes of finishing top of the table alive. Snakebite needs to beat van Barneveld on Thursday night, and hope Gary Anderson does him a favour by beating MVG. Dave Chisnall, who looked dead and buried just a few weeks ago, beat van Barneveld 7-5 with an average of over 109 to stay in play off contention. Chizzy face bottom-of-the-table Wade this week, and is fancied to apply the pressure to Taylor in search of the top four.
Phil Taylor v Adrian Lewis
First we’re backing the Power to come good at 1.92Bet €100 to win €19223/25Bet £100 to win £192-109Bet $100 to win $1920.92Bet HK$100 to win HK$192-1.09Bet Rp100 to win Rp1920.9200Bet RM100 to win RM192 with 188Bet by beating Adrian Lewis.
If, as expected, Chisnall wins his earlier game with Wade, Taylor will know exactly what is required here. A draw will be enough if Chizzy does take two points, but Taylor won’t want to take any chances and is fancied to claim the win.
Lewis has nothing to play for but pride on Thursday night, after a dismal run which has seen him lose his last four Premier League fixtures. Jackpot was beaten 7-2 by Peter Wright last week, posting just a 92.8 average and hitting only 22% of doubles.
MVG was out-of-sorts against Taylor, but take nothing away from the Stoke ace who hit a 100+ average and landed some stunning checkouts. In his last season on the professional circuit, Taylor has plenty of motivation to make his way into the top four.
Dave Chisnall v James Wade
Chisnall opens the night’s darts and he’s a decent bet to beat Wade at 1.83Bet €100 to win €18383/100Bet £100 to win £183-120Bet $100 to win $1830.83Bet HK$100 to win HK$183-1.20Bet Rp100 to win Rp1830.8300Bet RM100 to win RM183 with Ladbrokes, Betfred and Coral.
Chizzy hit a scorching 109.36 average in the 7-5 defeat of van Barneveld, in what was a high quality match. Out of form at the start of the season, Chisnall’s recent run has seen him move to fifth in the table. He’s the only player who can prevent Taylor from taking fourth spot, but first he must beat James Wade.
Wade has had a couple of notable results lately against Taylor and Lewis but it’s been too little too late, and last week’s 7-3 defeat by Gary Anderson saw him hit an average of just 87.35. He’s only won five of his fifteen Premier League games this season, and could suffer at the hands of a fired up Chisnall.
Peter Wright v Raymond van Barneveld
Finally, we’ll continue to back the on-fire Peter Wright at 1.73Bet €100 to win €17373/100Bet £100 to win £173-137Bet $100 to win $1730.73Bet HK$100 to win HK$173-1.37Bet Rp100 to win Rp1730.7300Bet RM100 to win RM173 with Coral, Paddy Power and Ladbrokes to beat van Barneveld.
Wright has to go into this game to win and put the pressure on Michael van Gerwen in the final game. MVG faces Gary Anderson, which is a tough tie in the Scotsman’s native country. Wrgiht has to believe that van Gerwen can get turned over, and a win here will see him top of the table by the time the number one takes to the stage.
Barney was still in contention up until last week, but the 7-5 defeat to Chisnall ended his hopes of reaching the final four. He always has strong support in Aberdeen, and will want to finish on a high, but he’s taking on the most in-form player in the world here, who is fresh from whitewashing Michael van Gerwen 6-0 at the European Grand Prix.
