Panther Patrol to be Pink Hot at Goodwood

September 21, 2016

Panther Patrol has a great each way chance at Goodwood today.

4.55 Goodwood – Panther Patrol

Panther Patrol ran a good second recently at fairly big odds, and Eve Johnson Houghton’s runner has a solid chance of going one better at Goodwood on Wednesday. Drawn in stall 7, this prominent racer should at least make the frame, and rates as a fair each-way bet in this Class 4 handicap.

Eve Johnson Houghton has the occasional good horse, but the majority of her runners compete in lower grade handicaps. Panther Patrol was initially one of those runners, but he racked up four successive victories in 2014, and climbed to a mark of 80 from 64. The horse clearly had problems last year, as he was only seen on a racecourse three times, however after a very moderate come back effort this term, the son of Tagula showed that he is no forlorn hope, as he finished second in a ten runner contest at Chepstow. Relatively unfancied that day, he tracked the pace, before bursting into the lead in the last furlong. Was collared by the winner, but ran a strong race. A horse further down the field has since won, so the form of the race has definitely been boosted, and Panther Patrol may well come on again from Chepstow, as he has only raced twice this term.

With 12 runners, punters will get ¼ odds per place, so this is a good time to place the each-way bet. Panther Patrol gets the nod.

8.40 Kempton – Charlie Bear

Charlie Bear showed a touch of class last time out when winning over 11 furlongs at Kempton. Jamie Osborne’s Myboycharlie colt steps back up to 12 furlongs and looks to have a great chance.

Charlie Bear raced over 12 furlongs on penultimate start at Wolverhampton and ran a strange race.  Horse was keen and was allowed to stride on but emptied quickly in the home straight. Was dropped in trip by a furlong and was held up – it made the world of difference. Is likely to adopt the same tactics back up in trip and could follow up.
