Hamilton to Do Pole-Win Double at Monza For 4th Time

September 3, 2016

Lewis Hamilton has won three of the last four Italian Grand Prix renewals.

Lewis Hamilton has won three of the last four editions of the Italian Grand Prix, including each of the last two, and it would seem that Sunday’s renewal on one of his favourite tracks is his to lose after Friday’s practice sessions.

Hamilton completed the pole position-race win double in the 2012, 2014 and 2015 editions of the Italian Grand Prix and, fresh from his incredible performance in last week’s Belgian Grand Prix, he looks set to extend his Formula One title lead beyond the nine-point advantage that he enjoys now.

Most Formula One races in recent years have boiled down to a head-to-head scrap between Hamilton and Nico Rosberg so it makes sense to review the Italian Grand Prix results of the Mercedes drivers. Hamilton and Rosberg have competed against each other in nine Italian Grand Prix editions, with the British driver enjoying a 7-2 lead over his German rival. Hamilton’s Italian Grand Prix advantage over Rosbeg is 6-1 if one only counts races that the British driver finished.

Some punters may think that Hamilton’s Italian Grand Prix odds of 1.60Bet €100 to win €1603/5Bet £100 to win £160-167Bet $100 to win $1600.60Bet HK$100 to win HK$160-1.67Bet Rp100 to win Rp1600.6000Bet RM100 to win RM160  with 888Sport and Unibet are a touch stingy. But one thinks that Hamilton has a better than 62.5 per cent chance of winning the Italian Grand Prix because he navigates Monza much better than Rosberg, the circuit is not one of Red Bull’s favourites and Ferrari is off the pace.

Hamilton has an almost brand new engine inside his Mercedes after taking massive grid penalty in the Belgian Grand Prix so his Silver Arrows equipment should be superior to that of Rosberg. Monza is the fastest track on the Formula One card based on average speed – 244 kilometres per hour – and it features four fast straights. Italian Grand Prix competitors race at full throttle for more than two-thirds of every Monza lap and, as the Formula One history books demonstrate clearly, no team likes such circuits more than Mercedes.

Bet365 is offering odds of 2.25Bet €100 to win €2255/4Bet £100 to win £225+125Bet $100 to win $2251.25Bet HK$100 to win HK$2251.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp225-0.8000Bet RM100 to win RM225  about Hamilton doing the pole position-race win double in yet another Italian Grand Prix and that strikes one as the best available wager.

All the talk leading into the Italian Grand Prix has been about Formula One’s enfant terrible, Max Verstappen, and what he will do next. Verstappen made even more on-track enemies with his antics during the Belgian Grand Prix and, while the Dutch teenage sensation did not receive an official reprimand, the word in pit lane is that several senior drivers are going give him a piece of their minds.

Verstappen is a stubborn young man who does not think that he has done anything wrong. Mad Max does not take criticism kindly and one is willing to bet that he will drive in the Italian Grand Prix just as aggressively as he did in the Belgium Grand Prix. Bet365 and William Hill are listing the appetising odds of 6.00Bet €100 to win €6005/1Bet £100 to win £600+500Bet $100 to win $6005.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$6005.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp600-0.2000Bet RM100 to win RM600  about Verstappen not finishing the Italian Grand Prix. There is a fair chance that Verstappen will be involved in an incident that will result in one or more cars accumulating major damage and one is not willing to rule out the possibility of a Formula One veteran teaching a lesson to the new kid on the block.
