Bet of the Weekend #8 – Fortaleza v Gremio

The Breakdown

This weekend’s Bet of the Weekend comes from the Brazilian Serie A where Fortaleza are up against Gremio (Brazil Serie A, 9pm, 19th October).

Now, under normal circumstances I would not go for this selection but Gremio are playing their Copa Libertadores semi-final 2nd leg just 4 days after this game. They have to travel away to Flamengo which is going to be an extremely tough proposition for them.

The Copa Libertadores is the most prestigious competition for them, just like Champions league is for most European teams. Hence, Gremio are going to be resting most of their first teamers and their team will likely be comprised of reserves and players who are usually subs.

Fortaleza were unlucky to lose their last game at home against league leaders Flamengo where they were leading up until the 80th minute. Before that game, they had won 2 in a row at home without conceding a goal against Chapecoense and Botafogo.

They are 2 points above the relegation zone and desperately need points here. They are a lot more motivated for this game than Gremio who have their focus on the Copa Libertadores.
