Will England Complete T20 Sweep Over Windies?

March 9, 2019

England put forward an outstanding display in Saint Kitts and Nevis to secure the T20 series against the West Indies, delivering their most emphatic victory in the format.

Sam Billing scored a brilliant 87 to set a daunting total for the home side. The Three Lions were indebted to the Kent batsman along with Joe Root for digging them out of trouble.

England had been reduced to 32-4 when the two players came together. The duo were able to put on a partnership of 82 before Billings too centre stage, helping the tourists blast 44 from the final 12 balls of the innings, setting the Windies 183 to win.

Jason Holder’s men responded with one of the worst batting displays in T20 history. They were skittled out for only 45 as Chris Jordan ripped through the order, claiming figures of 4-6.

Adil Rashid and Liam Plunkett notched two wickets apiece to secure England’s largest victory in the 20-over game. Eoin Morgan’s side will now be eyeing a clean sweep to end their tour of the Caribbean on a high note.

West Indies’ Top Batsman

The Windies endured a nightmare with the bat. No one in the ranks emerged with any credit after that performance. England were outstanding with the ball, but the shot selection along with execution for the home side’s batsmen was atrocious. They were fortunate to avoid posting the lowest international T20 score of 39, which was set by the Netherlands, just edging past the mark. Given the quality in their batting ranks there has to be a response to their lowest total in the format.

Gayle has gone off the boil since his blistering form in the ODIs. He has not managed to settle at the crease in the shorter format of the game, which is surprising given that it is his specialty. The Windies built around the tone he set in the innings in the ODIs. Without Gayle blasting away the England bowlers, they’ve struggled to fire. He has too much quality to be held down for long so back him to find his touch again at odds of 3.00Bet €100 to win €3002/1Bet £100 to win £300+200Bet $100 to win $3002.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$3002.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp300-0.5000Bet RM100 to win RM300  with Bet365.

Hales needs a score in the final T20

England have been waiting for that innings from Billings for a while. He has largely underwhelmed in the international arena despite his impressive form in domestic competitions. However, Billings’ average 17.44 in his 18 innings with two fifties is still not good enough for a player of his calibre. He looks to have secured his place in one of the backup spots for now and may even get an opportunity to stake a claim for a place in the 50-over side.

Alex Hales has not been in great form on the tour outside of a score of 82 in the fourth ODI where seemingly every batsman made a decent knock. At the age of 30, Hales has dropped below Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow in the pecking order. There are a lot of quality options that are emerging in the ranks in the Lions set-up along with the county game.

Sam Hain among others are beginning to press for places given the context of a World Cup year, England may be looking at the next generation sooner rather than later. Hales needs an innings to remind the selectors of his quality. Back the opener to fire in the final T20 series at odds of 4.00Bet €100 to win €4003/1Bet £100 to win £400+300Bet $100 to win $4003.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$4003.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp400-0.3333Bet RM100 to win RM400  with 888Sport.

West Indies’ Top Bowler

The Windies had England on the back foot at 32-4, but were unable to capitalise on their advantage to dismiss the tourists for a cheap score. There has always been one bowler to have made the breakthrough and has sustained the pressure. However, support has not always been forthcoming. On this occasion Fabian Allen’s slow left-arm was able to make the inroads, removing Hales and Joe Denly cheaply.

The home side have lacked a quality spinner in their ranks as Ashley Nurse and Devendra Bishoo have failed to rise to the occasion. Allen put the ball in the right spot, operating with control and he was able to notch two key wickets for his team. The 23-year-old has a good record in his short career, taking eight wickets in his eight appearances at an average of 21.37. Allen will be eyeing a similar performance on the same ground where conditions will not alter much. Back him at odds of 6.00Bet €100 to win €6005/1Bet £100 to win £600+500Bet $100 to win $6005.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$6005.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp600-0.2000Bet RM100 to win RM600  with 888Sport to lead the wicket column.

Jordan can help his World Cup cause

Jordan ripped through the Windies’ top order to put England in complete command of the game before Rashid and Plunkett were able to finish off proceedings. The 30-year-old will be determined to make a late push for England’s World Cup squad and performances of that ilk will give the selectors a nudge. Jordan has had issues with consistency, although his ability to bowl at the death could be important in England during the summer.

The Three Lions have seen the best of him in the T20 format where his variations are more impactful during four-over spells rather than 10. If he ends the tour on a high note with another fine display, Jordan may be able to edge himself ahead of David Willey in the pecking order. His outstanding fielding adds another string to his bow, while he is no novice with bat in hand. It’s an important game for Jordan, back him to enjoy another strong outing at odds of 4.33Bet €100 to win €433333/100Bet £100 to win £433+333Bet $100 to win $4333.33Bet HK$100 to win HK$4333.33Bet Rp100 to win Rp433-0.3003Bet RM100 to win RM433  with Bet365.

Winner

The Windies will be eager to respond after their humiliating defeat, although England will be keen to press home their advantage to complete the sweep. The Three Lions have the edge in the bowling ranks and are continuing to the put home side under pressure.

If Gayle fails again, England should be in line for another victory. The tourists’ batting lineup has yet to click into full gear in the T20s so they could be due a special performance to end the tour on a high note. Back them to get the job done at odds of 1.73Bet €100 to win €17373/100Bet £100 to win £173-137Bet $100 to win $1730.73Bet HK$100 to win HK$173-1.37Bet Rp100 to win Rp1730.7300Bet RM100 to win RM173  with Bet365.
